5 PLACES FOR ART ON BLOCK ISLAND

Providence may be known as the Creative Capital, but that doesn’t make it the end-all be all of arts in Rhode Island. Block Island has a wide variety of artists from different disciplines showcasing their work on a regular basis. From brick-and-mortar galleries, to arts cooperatives, to weekly pop-ups, New Shoreham offers many opportunities to see and buy art on the island. Here are 5 suggested places to begin your search.

SPRING STREET GALLERY

A Block Island arts staple, the Spring Street Gallery has been operation for over 40 years. This artist cooperative features work from members and special guests including paintings, photography, jewelry, ceramics and more! JESSIE EDWARDS GALLERY

Overlooking Old Harbor from the second floor of the old post office building, the Jessie Edwards Studio specializes in contemporary art from both national and regional artists. Along with regular exhibitions, the gallery also offers silkscreen, lithographs, giclees, craft, and unique gift items for purchase. BLOCK ISLAND ARTS & CRAFTS GUILD

Featuring a wide variety of painters, potters, jewelry makers, photographers (and more), the Block Island Arts & Craft Guild holds events throughout the season. BLOCK ISLAND FARMER’S MARKET

Have you ever gone to pick up some strawberries and come home with a piece of artwork? The Block Island Farmer’s Market not only offers fresh produce and baked goods, but also includes booths for local artisans to sell their wares!
